I just picked up a 1985 Skeeter SF175 project boat and I'm looking to do a full restoration. It's got the original Yamaha 150, which probably needs work, and the transom feels soft. I'm bracing for likely stringer issues too, plus the usual cosmetic and electrical overhaul. My main concerns right now are the structural integrity, particularly the transom and stringer assessment/replacement.
For those who've tackled an SF175, what materials did you use for the transom? Was it ply, composite? Any tips or common weak points for stringers on these older Skeeters? Also, if anyone has wiring diagrams for this model or knows of good parts sources for the 1985 Yamaha 150 V6 Special, I'd be very grateful! Finally, any advice on restoring faded gel coat would be appreciated!
This is my first big boat restoration, so all suggestions and warnings are welcome!
