I want to buy my first bass boat and weighing the options. The first is a 1998 ZX202C Skeeter with a 2002 Yamaha 200 HP 3.1 VMAX. The second is a 1999 Triton TR21 with a 1999 Mercury 200 HP Optimax, which supposedly has a new powerhead and lower unit from a year ago. Both boats are priced the same, and I plan to get a compression test to ensure the motor's in good shape (around 100 psi, within 5% variance). Which motor is the better choice in your opinion?

I actually ran my old boat same motor you're lookin' at on that Skeeter. Man, I hammered on that thing back in the day, and it never quit on me. Last I heard, it's still kickin' with its fourth owner!

Now, the hull? That's another story, cracked on me a few times. But if that Skeeter hull is solid, I'd say go for it. That 3.1L V Max is one tough engine, for sure.

Looks like the Skeeter's motor is a good choice if the hull checks out.. I'll keep that in mind as I inspect both boats
